WorkSmart provides data reduction procedures for Zone 7 Water Agency.
Recently, WorkSmart Automation completed a data reduction project for the Zone 7 Water
Agency near Livermore, CA. The project required that data from the Agency’s Wonderware
Industrial SQL Server (InSQL) database be computed for 15-minute minimum, maximum,
and average aggregate values and separate Daily Flow Totals be stored on a 24-hour basis.
This database application serves the Agency’s engineering staff who do not have access to
the SCADA system and needed the ability to correct, override, and explain erroneous values
sometimes logged by InSQL while not changing the original data.
The application runs within Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and consists of multiple stored procedures
that are executed nightly. Each procedure performs data access over the agency’s network and
stores the result locally on the engineering Quality Assurance (QA) Database Server.
An operator interface programmed in Microsoft Access allows engineers to query and validate
the data and monthly turn-out and flow production reports are configured using WorkSmart’s
ReportBuilder™ inside Microsoft Excel.
Gerry Gates, Water Resources Technician for Zone 7 Water Agency said;
"This application is just what we wanted. It has all the features we requested and works even
better than we hoped. Because it is an Access front-end, the learning curve for our
users was minimal. By integrating ReportBuilder™ software into the SQL database, we were
able to begin using the data immediately. We've already uncovered some problems on the SCADA
side and we're going about fixing them. WorkSmart Automation put all of the pieces together
for us and delivered the applications ahead of schedule. The aggregate data is very user-friendly
and has many uses that we hadn't even thought of."

ReportBuilder™ featured in a Control Engineering news article.
Control Engineering, the well known engineering magazine covering control,
instrumentation, and automation systems worldwide featured an article about
the features and benefits of WorkSmart Automation’s ReportBuilder reporting
tools for SCADA. As a result, we have been receiving requests from
engineers and system integrators from as close as Northern California to as
far away as China and all over the world! To read the story, click here.

WorkSmart Automation announces support for building SCADA Reports that connect and report on data direct from Wonderware InTouch historical log files! Now you can build reports in 1/10th the time it normally takes using the old CSV file route with InTouch applications. ReportBuilder now reports data through an ODBC connection to the Wonderware InTouch log files! This significantly reduces the time and effort required and allows for reporting on data since the time it started logging. Combined with the ease of use of ReportBuilder, reports can be run for any time frame you are interested in. If you are looking for an alternative to the price of ActiveFactory, ReportBuilder is a sure winner! Building SCADA reports has never been easier!
